Entrepreneurs want to become more sustainable, but have no money
Cultuur+Ondernemen participated in the flash poll of the Small Business Index (KBI) for the third quarter of 2022, a brief survey of the economic situation of the self-employed and small businesses. This time the focus was on the impact of current inflation. Almost two-thirds of Small Businesses want to invest quickly in measures to reduce energy consumption, but cannot afford this themselves. Additional funding is required for this. The need to invest quickly in the energy transition is fueled by the high energy prices. Most entrepreneurs want to invest in a combination of measures: installing solar panels (64%), replacing equipment with energy-efficient appliances (63%), improving insulation (59%) and purchasing an electric company car (57%) Click here.
More financing requirement
Investing in the aforementioned energy-saving measures costs entrepreneurs a lot of money. Money that is not there after years of crises such as the corona crisis, energy crisis and increasing effects of inflation. That is why there is an increasing need for external financing. This financing requirement has been increasing since the second quarter of 2021 from 23% to 45% now.
More entrepreneurs are considering quitting
The flash poll of the Small Business Index also shows that an increasing number of entrepreneurs are considering quitting their business (7.4%). This is particularly the case in the hotel and catering industry (17%) and the cultural sector (14%). Entrepreneurs in these sectors often have an entrepreneurial wage below the social minimum and are therefore finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet. In the cultural sector, only 14% earn more than the minimum wage, while the average of all sectors earning more than the minimum wage is 42%.
