Is data storage beneficial for your business?

Data storage means that files, documents, or any other information that are stored digitally in a storage system for future use. The technology gathers digital information on electromagnetic, optical, or silicon-based storage media. In cyber-attacks, data storage makes backup files for security and quick recovery. Storage is needed from individual to professional levels, used in homes, offices, data centers, education and business sectors, etc. It is essential in mobile devices, laptops, and personal computers. Storage devices include physical hard drivers, disk drivers, flash drives, or other media types.

Why is data storage necessary?

The important thing is that your files are backed up and readily available even if your device is damaged. Other important factors are that data storage is reliable, has security features, and is cost-effective. It is a vital part of a successful organization. You can save all files in your accounts, monitor them anytime, and maintain the bulk of files in case of future need.

How many types of data storage?

There are different types of data storage. Direct Attached Storage (DAS) and Network attached storage (NAS) are the two broad types. There are many devices used for this storage, and each has its advantages and disadvantages that are described below:

Direct Attached Storage (DAS)

Direct attached storage includes data storage that is physically connected to your computer or laptop. This storage is only accessible to a single machine. DAS has hard drivers, Solid-state drivers, CD/DVD drivers, Flash drivers, and more. It creates a local backup and can be more affordable than Network attached storage.

The advantage of Direct Attached Storage is excellent because it is easy to use and very cheap. The price per GB is meager, and pricing continues to trend downward for these storage devices.

The main drawback of Direct Attached Storage is that it is not very sharable. If you want to share your data with someone else, you need to upload it from your computer or laptop to the cloud, send it through email, or physically go over to that person.

Network Attached Storage (NAS)

Network Attached Storage device is a file server that delivers files from a shared database to connected users and enables multiple users to access data over the Network. There are three essential components associated with NAS:

  1. It has to have connectivity to the internet.
  2. You need multiple hard drives attached to the NAS.
  3. Hard drivers have to be configured into a redundant array of independent disks.

Some advantages of NAS are; it is simple to operate, reduces wasted space over other storage technologies, has easy data backup, and has security features.

The disadvantage of NAS is; if you perform multiple activities on your Network, it slows down the performance. It is not fast enough for high-performance applications. It becomes more complicated with too many devices.

Which data storage type is right for your business?

Network Storage Data is essential for all-sized businesses. IT Solution providers  are the one that store data digitally. So companies do not need to hire extra staff to manage the data. NAS is easy to use security, backup, and recovery to protect the application. It has a wide range of applications to support business needs.

Furthermore, it also depends on your specific business requirement. First, evaluate which data storage type you need to use and create IT infrastructure based on those requirements.
