With the number of people jumping on the “ketogenic diet” bandwagon right today, people are beginning to question whether this diet option is right the right one for those who are. Even if you’re not adhering to a ketogenic lifestyle, you’d be hard-pressed not to notice keto-specific food items sold in the supermarket.

Marketers are catching on that the ketogenic diet doesn’t seem to be moving in the direction they had hoped and are beginning to create “ready to go” keto-suitable snacks. Are you allowed to go overboard?

Here are some things to be aware of when it comes to keto-friendly products…

1. Calories are essential. First, note that the calories, more than any other, are the main issue in this article. Many people are caught up in the keto diet in their diet without even considering the number of calories. If you consume snacks that contain 400 calories, they will have to be accounted for somewhere!

Consider this in comparison to a different keto-friendly snack, such as an apple with 100 calories. Which are you thinking is the better choice to follow your weight loss program? Adding peanut butter to the apple is possible to better balance it out. In the end, you will still have less than 200 calories, much lower than the calories of the keto-friendly snack.

2. Keto Does Not Necessarily Mean “Weight Loss Friendly.” Remember that keto is not a sign of weight loss-friendly. While many people are using the ketogenic diet to shed weight, you need to think about calories in the same way we have mentioned. Certain people follow the ketogenic diet for health reasons, and many of these foods are targeted to them since they don’t have to think about their calories so closely.

If a product says it’s keto doesn’t necessarily mean that it was intended to help you shed weight. Ketogenic is a low-carb, high-fat diet which significantly reduces carbs intake by replacing them with fat.

3. Take a look at nutrition. Keep the importance of nutrition in the forefront of your mind. If the keto-friendly snack is highly processed, as many of them are, and if the goal is to replace some processed, high-carb snacks within their diet, they are not necessarily healthy. Chocolate bars are never an ideal choice, whether it’s a keto chocolate bar or otherwise. Don’t lose all your common sense when you’ve heard the term “keto.”

With these tips in mind, you will be better equipped to discern the advertising for keto-related products and ensure they aren’t directing you off the smart diet.
